Education Partnership North East (EPNE)’s Sports Academies have hit glory across all its colleges, adding to an already impressive list of successes.
Northumberland College entered the regional tournament for football for both male and female for the first time in its history, plumbing student Mason Brown from the college is also on trial for Ipswich Town’s football club.
At Sunderland College, Sports Coaching student Niyah Dunbar has been selected for England under 19’s team, where she will hopefully make an appearance as a player for their national team in an official international match.
Fellow Gym and Personal Training students Ella West and Niamh Boothroyd who both also study at Sunderland College have been selected for Scotland and Northern Ireland under 19’s teams and Ella has already represented her home country for nearly 3 years.
Sunderland College also has a very strong squad with a high chance of winning at the National Championships in girls’ football️ as they have already won the Regional Tournament after representing the North East.
Hartlepool Sixth Form College has also seen student successes, with a win at the Regional Tournament in Rugby and Netball, meaning they’ll represent the region at the National Championships, following several other successful years of winning the regionals in a row.
As well as the regional tournaments, Hartlepool United, with student-athletes from Hartlepool Sixth Form College played the final qualifier in the Football Association Youth Cup.
Dr Michele Di Mascio, Head of Sports Academies, Partnerships and Wellbeing at EPNE, said: “It has been an outstanding year for our sports academies and absolutely topped off by the significant number of student-athletes having so many successes.
“Across the colleges, all student-athletes have shown amazing attendance so far this year, as well as outstanding levels of commitment to their education, showing that we commit to their dual career ambitions.
“They should be very proud of their achievements, and I wish them every success going forward.”
Significant investment in EPNE’s Sports Academies offers student-athletes the opportunity access to industry-standard performance and monitoring equipment, a strength and conditioning centre, sports science laboratory, sports massage treatment room, fully equipped gym, and multi-purpose sports hall.
