Strategic responsibility for business development, apprenticeships, sub–contracting, external funding, international and commercial activities. 

Development of mutually beneficial business/employer partnerships; meeting the needs of a more diverse range of learners through subcontracting; diversification of income streams; maximising the contribution of the college to the local and regional economy. 

I have always wanted to work in areas that make a difference to people’s lives and to organisations. This intrinsic motivation is what gets me out of bed in the morning.  

Education is very important both in terms of enabling individuals to realise their full potential and in enabling them to progress into and through work/their career. Education has both social and economic benefits. 

My first job after graduating with a Masters in Human Resource Management was in outdoor development; a great opportunity to combine my interest in people development and the love of the outdoors.

The variety of businesses and sectors the college engages with – no day is ever the same and you never know what opportunities are around the corner.

Authentic – being true to yourself and others is critically important in building relationships that last. 

Winning the AoC Beacon Award for Engagement with Employers. It truly marked how far we had come in a relatively short space of time. 

Driven, fair, professional. 

Making a difference – I need to feel that what I do is making a difference to others and/or to the college and organisations that we work with. 

Spending time in the outdoors with the family – my wife, two children and black Labrador – either climbing mountains, fell/trail running, mountain biking or open canoeing.

I’m Team Leader of the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team and have been in the team for 30 years.
