Education Partnership North East’s curriculum and support staff have developed innovative online learning methods for students to continue their studies at home, be engaged and motivated in their learning and to provide ongoing support.

Description of the activity

Uniformed Public Services have been using Microsoft Teams to engage remotely with students, uploading all relevant resources to Moodle and communicating with students on a 1:1 basis through chats. Students are using the Teams app to easily contact curriculum staff.

Screens are being shared students during 1:1 live tutorials if they feel that they need further assistance with curriculum staff recording themselves presenting sessions which are uploaded online so students can use them as reference when needed.

The team are looking to introduce live group presentations for students who sign into Teams as they will be able to contribute and ask questions if and when they need to.

Student feedback

Working from home was a struggle at first but now it has got easier. I can do the assignments at my own pace even if it means finishing them even earlier than I thought. Working remotely through Teams means that even though I am not in college, i can get help from Chris, James and Kate for Public Services and Jamie and Stacey for English. It really does help a lot because I don’t actually ask for help when I’m in college.”
