Recruiting an Information Communication Technician apprentice or placing on of your existing team on an apprenticeship can deliver efficient control of your organisation’s IT and/or Telecommuncations infrastructure such as virtual hardware, software, network services and data storage.

ICT staff a hands-on – they will diagnose and fix faults both on and offsite, assist staff who use various systems and undertake continuous development to help deliver and support businesses with their information and communication needs. They will also be able to:

  • Demonstrate baseline security skills for IT support professionals
  • Configure device operating systems
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve core service and support challenges while applying best practices for documentation, change management and scripting
  • Support basic IT infrastructure and networking
  • Configure and support PC, mobile and IoT device hardware
  • Implement basic data backup and recovery methods and apply data storage and management best practices

Leading water pump manufacturer and supplier Grundfos recruited ICT apprentice Ben Fox in 2022 who has become a strong member of the team.  Steven Palmer, Systems Engineer Specialist, said: “Ben’s knowledge is growing day by day and he is happy to try new things even if they push him out of his comfort zone sometimes.  The apprenticeship training receives aligns with some of the work he is tasked with but there are other qualifications and training that he could excel in. One of the main benefits with hiring an apprentice is that we can mould the employee into our way of thinking, so I fully support the apprenticeship route for recruitment.”

Ben, who is in the second year of his apprenticeship, added: “I am really enjoying my apprenticeship with Grundfos. I had previously attended college receiving qualifications in all subjects. However, when I went to university, I realised that this was not the correct route for me and this played a major part in me deciding to apply for the apprenticeship in a subject I already have some knowledge and interest in.

“Day to day I work on a telephony system and CCTV security upgrades, PC staging and replacements, project management, support our sister companies in the UK and Ireland including travel, global training travel to counties such as Denmark and Germany and I offer customer, user and admin support through our service desk through several software and data packages.”
