Ventilation and Insulation (Sunderland College)

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for individuals looking to upskill and gain employment in the retrofit industry, specifically looking at the safe and efficient ventilation and insulation of properties.

It is also designed for those already in the construction sector that want to upskill in the latest insulation and ventilation systems.

The scale of the challenge is enormous with over 1 million properties requiring retrofitting each year to 2050. Across the UK there is a shortage of over 225,000 skilled workers in the retrofit sector. If you are looking for a career that will enable you to grow your skills and your income, this is one of the best sectors to choose.

What will the Skills Bootcamp cover?

A Fabric First (insulation and ventilation) approach to retrofit is PAS2035 compliant route that is followed by government funded local authorities and housing associations. The UK has some of the poorest housing stock in Europe and requires some 27 million homes to be retrofitted to meet the Net Zero targets by 2050.

The Skills Bootcamp covers the essentials of how to install ventilation systems to avoid the issues of damp and mould, including cavity wall insulation, loft and underfloor insulation. We also have additional modules that cover internal and external wall insulation.

The course will provide an introduction to property retrofitting and the skills needed for improving the fabric of a property. It will provide the first step in developing valuable skills in a sector that needs over 400,000 workers by 2030 if the UK is to achieve it's 2050 target.

How long will the course last?

The Skills Bootcamp will be delivered one day per week for 10 weeks.
