This course is suitable for those who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of allergies. It is a useful introduction for those who wish to pursue a career in working with people who have food allergies, or those who work in sectors which require an awareness of allergies as part of their responsibilities.
Over the past few years, the number of people who experience allergic reactions has been steadily rising. Today, there are an estimated two million people in the UK living with an allergy.
No previous knowledge and experience are required; however, minimum level 1 English skills would be beneficial for completion of assessments.

You will be added to our Equal platform, where you will be able to access all the learning resources and assessments to complete. You will be allocated your own personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and demonstrate your knowledge. Your personal tutor will then assess your work and provide you with constructive feedback for each unit. All of our award-winning learning resources are of the highest quality and are designed to be engaging and interactive to keep you focused on your learning at all times. This course is available paper-based too on request.
You should be able to work at a level 1 in functional skills.
This is a 16 weeks distance learning course to be completed independently, in your own time, with support from learning resources and a personal tutor. We advise you allocate dedicated study time on a weekly basis to fit around your commitments.
Distance learning requires you to work independently through resources provided and the completion of assessment questions and tasks. Assessment submission dates will be evenly scheduled throughout the 16 weeks course.
The aim of this qualification is to introduce learners working with children, working in adult health and social care, or working in the service sector, to allergens, allergies, food labeling, and allergy awareness. The course includes information on the symptoms of allergic reactions, the treatments available for allergic reactions, and first aid for those experiencing a severe allergic reaction.
This course is split into five units, two of which are mandatory, you then select one out of three optional units, based on what is most relevant to you and your career/aspirations. Each unit is then split into smaller sections:
Unit 1: Allergens, allergies and intolerances (mandatory)
Unit 2: Food labelling and packaging (mandatory)
Unit 3: Allergy awareness for those working with children (optional)
Unit 4: Allergy awareness for those working in adult health and social care (optional)
Unit 5: Allergy awareness for those working in the service sector (optional)
